On september 24, 2005, 35 year old michelle vanek had come up from denver that morning and left half moon campground around 7:00 a.M. To go hiking. Near the summit of mt. Holy cross, michelle stated she was very tired and her friend told her to wait and he would go to the top and be right back. The friend stated he advised michelle if she wanted to head back down, to follow the trail and he would catch up with her. On his way down, the friend did not locate michelle. He stated he went back up to look for her and had talked to several hikers in the area. All had told him they had not seen her. The friend told deputies that michelle was a tri-athlete, but was an inexperienced high altitude hiker. Deputies were advised michelle was wearing a red shirt and black pants with hiking boots. The friend also advised michelle had approximately 3-4 layers of clothes with her. During the hike, michelle had run out of drinking water at approximately 1:15 p.M., when she stopped to rest. On november 21, 1993, beatrice montes shut down her restaurant, la mariposa, formerly at 159 1/2 colorado avenue. After counting the days receipts and cash with her boyfriend, jose jesus tanori-ruiz, and her son joseph vigil the three retired to their apartments above the restaurant. Around 2:00 a.M. Joseph vigil was interrupted by yelling between beatrice and jose. The next morning, around 11:00 a.M., joseph vigil woke to find his mother, beatrice montes, strangled to death. The cash from the previous day's business along with jose jesus tanori-ruiz were gone. In october 1994, police received information placing mr. Tanori-ruiz in the sonora region of mexico. 51 year old hayden town mayor richard roberts was last seen around 8:30pm on february 1, 1995, when he told a town clerk he would not be attending the hayden town council's bi-monthly meeting later that week. Mr. Roberts' job as a consultant to oil companies required him to travel through several counties visiting oil-rig pads, and friends said it was not unusual for him to be gone for more than a week. The town clerk's office reported mr. Roberts missing february 9, 1995. The hayden police department launched its investigation into mr. Roberts's disappearance a few days later. His gray and white ford pickup was found in the utah desert near the colorado state line. Mr. Robert's wallet, car keys and .22-caliber rifle were missing. Three footprints were found near the truck but a dry winter left them indistinct. All but one set of fingerprints left in the truck were accounted for. No other evidence was found at the site. Mr. Roberts' aliases include first names richard, chester, dick, and dean, and last names roberts and thayer. Mr. Roberts was divorced and lived alone at the time. He has three daughters. She disappeared early in the evening after she left her apartment in the apollo park neighborhood to visit a local tavern. Although never charged in her case, serial killer ted bundy confessed to cunningham's murder. Bundy stated that he lured her into his vehicle by posing as an injured skier on crutches and asking her to help carry his ski boots. He claims he knocked her unconscious, drove her to a remote area about eighty miles west of vail and raped her. He states he strangled her and then disposed of her body in a shallow grave near rifle, co in a high desert area with a circular drive and some large trees. Her body was never found, however. The next day, a search party found her bicycle and shoes under the fifth street bridge, near the railroad tracks. In 1989, days before his execution, ted bundy told investigators he had disposed of a body in a river about five miles west of grand junction, colorado. Since february 1999, the westminster and thornton police departments detectives have investigated the suspicious disappearance of nine year old sarah skiba, her father paul skiba and lorenzo chivers, an employee of paul's moving company and storage facility (tuff's moving) located on the 7000 block of raleigh street, westminster. Physical evidence was located at the moving and storage facility and in or on two moving trucks owned by the business. Blood found at the facility was confirmed to be human blood by the colorado bureau of investigation and identified through dna as being from paul and sarah skiba. On february 17, 1999, a vehicle belonging to lorenzo chivers was located several blocks away from the moving and storage facility at the apartment complex parking lot of 3809 west 68th avenue, westminster, and on february 27, 1999, the vehicle belonging to paul skiba was located in an apartment complex parking lot at the 3100 block of arkansas, denver. The investigation and forensic evidence indicate sarah and paul skiba and lorenzo chivers were likely murdered near 72nd avenue and raleigh street in westminster on february 7, 1999. Their bodies have never been recovered. The case has been reclassified as a homicide investigation. Second photo is age-progressed to 16 years, third photo is age-progressed to 22 years.
