On august 19th, 2006 at approximately 0330 hours, cpd officers responded to the area of 76 murray blvd. In reference to a vehicle blocking traffic and possible gunshots in the area. This area, called “the battery”, is known for its historical significance and high valued homes. Upon the arrival on scene, officers located clifton harris jr. Slumped over in the driver’s seat deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Due to the vehicle’s final location, detectives believe clifton was attempting to flee from his killer prior to being shot numerous times. Minutes later, officers observed a b/m (later identified as daman washington aka “duck”) deceased lying by a white 2005 chevrolet malibu rental vehicle. The vehicle had been rented by a family member of damon. The investigation showed damon had been driving the malibu that night making multiple stops. It is believed damon was alone and went to the location of killian and nunan to meet someone he knew.Agency

John’s episcopal church. John had been shot multiple times and was pronounced deceased at the scene. John was a vietnam veteran and one of the first african american business proprietors of an upscale jazz club located on jackson street called “club basin street”. John succumbed to the elements of the east side but, it did not prevent him from being a mentor to many young men, giving young mothers advice on how to handle their children when going astray. On january 30th, 1987, josefino bugarin (61 years old at time of death) was found by family members lying on the ground in front of his barber shop (joe’s barber shop) which was (then) located at 109-a st. James ave. (the barber shop and adjacent businesses were razed years ago and replaced with the present-day elam’s crossroads shopping center). Bugarin was late coming home which aroused the suspicion of family members who went to the barber shop to check on him. After finding bugarin, family members flagged down a passing motorist who notified gcpd. Officers arrived and notified the coroner who pronounced bugarin deceased. The investigation revealed that bugarin had been robbed then bludgeoned to death as he had severe head injuries. Responding officers met with numerous witnesses, none of which provided useful information. An exhaustive investigation identified potential suspect(s); however, the reluctance of witnesses to cooperate has prevented significant case progress. Griggs was employed as a bridge inspector for the mark clark bridge project and was believed to have left home with a large sum of cash on his person. A rental car he was driving was found abandoned in the northwood's mall parking lot. The evidence in this case is very limited and few leads were generated in the early investigation.
