On may 10, 1970, avery roy shipman was driving in aloha with his wife and mother in the car just before dusk. He was eastbound on highway 8 when a brown 1964 chevrolet station wagon cut them off on the road and would not let them pass. The chevy driver eventually pulled his vehicle over to the fog line and mr. Shipman pulled over in front of him. Shipman got out of his car to go talk to the suspect. As he walked to the rear of his vehicle, the station wagon driver suddenly accelerated from a stop and struck shipman, who died at the scene of his injuries. The vehicle left traveling east (toward beaverton) with two occupants inside. While detectives were at the scene, a witness approached. He said his name was charles cromwell, and that he was in the car with the suspect when he ran over mr. Shipman. Cromwell said he had hitched a ride from hillsboro with the suspect. He did not know the driver’s name, but he witnessed everything. Cromwell said the suspect pulled over to let him out near st. Mary’s home for boys, where he worked as a counselor. The victim pulled over in front of him and rapidly approached the vehicle. The driver told cromwell to “hang on” just before accelerating and running down shipman. He described the suspect vehicle as a grey chevrolet station wagon driven by a male 19-22 years of age, with brown wavy hair and sideburns, wearing blue levi jeans and a white shirt. After striking the victim, the suspect traveled east on highway 8. Cromwell said he jumped from the vehicle as it slowed to turn right onto sw 145th. A second witness said he saw shipman get run over and he gave chase, following the suspect east on highway 8, then turning south on sw 145th. He lost the vehicle near scholls ferry road. He said the vehicle was a turquoise 1964 chevrolet station wagon with two taillights, one on each side. He did not see anyone jump from the vehicle as it approached murray boulevard. Avery roy shipman lived in hillsboro at the time of his death, but he was laid to rest in the st. Francis catholic cemetery in roy, a community southeast of banks, oregon.Agency

HomicideInfo
Glenn pennie disappeared under suspicious circumstances in october 2004. He was last seen by a neighbor on october 3, 2004, at his home at 14970 airlie road in rural polk county. Mr. Pennie was planning to leave on october 4, 2004 for oakland, ca, to attend a court hearing regarding his late father’s estate, where he would inherit more than one million dollars. The polk county sheriff’s office was called to investigate glenn’s disappearance once it was discovered that his pickup was still in the driveway a few days after he was supposed to have left for california. Investigators found no sign of a struggle and no signs that other vehicles had been in or out of glenn’s driveway. Glenn’s pickup was found to be packed with a suitcase, snacks, and other travel items for his planned trip to california. Investigators discovered that glenn had arranged for a neighbor to feed his cat. Glenn had also called some friends in california the night of october 3, 2004 to let them know he would be leaving early the next morning for oakland. A massive search was conducted over the next few weeks, covering 53 square miles and monitoring of glenn’s bank accounts and cell phone records yielded no clues as to what happened to glenn. Those that knew glenn told investigators that he would not have simply walked away from his father’s inheritance. The polk county cold case team has been working on this case since 2007, but the whereabouts of glenn or what happened to him are still unknown. The polk county sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information regarding the disappearance of glenn pennie to call the tip line at 503-623-1878 and refer to case #04-2879.Agency
