On friday, december 15, 1961, at about 6:30 pm, john was working as the lone service station attendant at clark's esso service station on state route 104 in the town of ontario, wayne county, ny. John's body was discovered on friday, december 15, 1961, at 7:00 pm, by the station owner. For more than four decades, police have been attempting to identify a customer who may have seen or known the perpetrator. The customer was described in 1961 as a white male, 35 - 40 years old, 5' 10" to 6' tall, weighing about 175 lbs., thin face, white shirt, no tie or coat, dark lightweight trousers, dark fedora hat, black gloves. He was operating a dark colored 1957 or 1959 automobile, possibly a plymouth, with rear fenders having a vertical up-sweep or fins, and carrying a rear registration plate having a dark green background with white numerals and writing under the numbers, but no "Tab". This could be an ohio plate. This car may have received an oil change and lube while at this station, while the perpetrator was present.

On april 2, 1973 at about 5:15 pm, 11-year-old wanda walkowicz went to the grocery store for her mother. Wanda made it to the store, purchased several items and was last seen walking home, but did not return home. On april 3, 1973, at 10:15 am, a new york state trooper, while on patrol, located walkowicz's body at a rest area off state route 104 in webster, ny. This homicide and two other unsolved homicides were dubbed the alphabet murders and double initial murders by the media, as all three cases occurred in the rochester area. Carmen colon, age 10, was found on november 16, 1971 in the town of riga, monroe county, and michele maenza, age 11, was found on november 28, 1973, in the town of macedon, wayne county. These cases have not been officially connected, however, all three cases remain open.

On saturday september 17, 2016 the rochester fire dept. Responded to a house fire at 99 high st. The house was fully engulfed in flames but the fire department was able to remove virginia ortiz (mother), willie nelson jr. (child) and ameeya nelson (child) from the house and took them to the hospital were they were later pronounced. The fire was started in the front seat area of a 2005 toyota avalon parked in the driveway. The fire spread and caught the entire house on fire. Several people were able to get out house but virginia was last seen going upstairs to retrieve the children.

On saturday september 17, 2016 the rochester fire dept. Responded to a house fire at 99 high st. The house was fully engulfed in flames. The fire department was able to get virginia ortiz (mother), willie nelson jr. (child) and ameeya nelson (child) out of the house. They were rushed to the hospital, but all tragically died from smoke inhalation. The fire was intentionally lit in the front seat area of a 2005 toyota avalon parked in the driveway. The fire quickly spread and ultimately engulfed the entire house on fire. Several people were able to escape, but virginia perished as she rushed upstairs in an attempt to save the children.
