Officers arrived and confirmed the discovery of a deceased male’s body in the quarry. The deceased male was later identified as 23-year-old john a. Moody. An autopsy was completed and it was determined moody died as the result of a gunshot wound. Officers and detectives conducted an extensive investigation and discovered moody’s family and friends reported last seeing moody or having contact with moody approximately one month prior to the discovery of his body. It is unknown how long moody’s body may have been in the quarry before it was discovered.

On january 7, 2001, at approximately 11:00 p.M., officers responded to 3043 w. Lynn to investigate a report of gunshots being fired. Officers arrived on scene a short time later and located james leon medler (40 y.O.A.) lying in the front doorway of the residence. Medler died at the scene as the result of a gunshot wound. The victim’s son, jamie medler, jr., reported he was present inside the home when several black male suspects forced entry through the locked front door. Jamie and a female associate said they fled the residence through the back door fearing they would be attacked by the suspects. Jamie and the female associate advised they heard a gunshot from inside the residence as they jumped the fence in the backyard. Jamie returned to the house several minutes later and found his father lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

Sherrill levitt: 11-01-44, 5', 110 lbs., brown eyes, short bleached-blonde hair, naturally curly hair, longer on top and short in the back. Sherrill levitt has a thin build and has freckles on her neck and upper chest area. Stacy mccall: white female, dob 04/23/74, 5'3'', 120 lbs., blue eyes, dark blonde hair to the middle of her back with sun-lightened ends. She has freckles on her face and a dimple in the middle of her chin. Suzanne (suzie) streeter: white female, dob 03/09/73, 5'2'', 102 lbs., brown eyes, straight bleached-blonde, shoulder-length hair, large teeth with no dental work. On october 16th, 2005, a pedestrian walking in the area of 92nd and pitcher road in independence, saw what they thought was a pile of trash in a vacant lot there. When they looked closer it turned out to be carpet padding and a blanket rolled up around the body of 22 year-old lakota r. Renville. Only her head was exposed.Independence police responded and immediately started an investigation that revealed the victim had been beaten and stabbed to death. Neighbors told police that as of 7:00 that morning the “pile of trash” had been there but no one looked more closely at that time, as illegal dumping was common in the area. Other neighbors said they did not see it.Police learned the victim worked as a prostitute along independence avenue in kansas city and had been with a customer as late as 3:30 that morning. Dna testing cleared that customer of suspicion. About an hour before the body was found an independence police officer on patrol in the area had seen a brown, nineties model ford explorer park in the lot where the body was found. There didn’t seem to be anyone around and the truck blocked the view of the spot where lakota’s body was. It is unknown if this vehicle had anything to do with her death.Police said it appeared she was killed elsewhere and her body dumped in the lot. The blanket in which she was found was distinctive and they hope it may trigger someone’s memory. It was a southwestern themed blanket with a desert scene with a skeleton head of a steer with horns. The spring following her murder, lakota’s tribe held a blessing ceremony at the spot where she was found to help bring peace to her spirit.

Cold case spotlight alonzo thomas iv, 20, had just taken a phone call outside a house on wayne avenue in kansas city, missouri on april 5, 2014 when shots rang out. Alonzo, or “zoe” as some called him, was seen by witnesses speaking to individuals in a white van or truck with a sliding passenger door and rusted rims before being shot. Alonzo made it to the front door of a residence where he knocked for help, collapsed and died. The shooting took place at 1:00pm, but despite it happening in the middle of the day and there being witnesses, no arrests have been made. Alonzo had two children, one that had not yet been born, when he was murdered. Their lives will forever be impacted by the violence that stole their father. Alonzo’s mom, monique willis, channeled her grief into advocacy and stated a nonprofit to help other families affected by violence in the kansas city area. Momma on mission, inc.
