In 1954, boulderites were shocked by the brutal murder of an unidentified young woman. After a futile attempt to establish her identity, as well as that of her killer, citizens donated funds for the woman's burial in columbia cemetery. She's still there today, with "Jane doe" engraved on her headstone. Police didn't have much to go on. Two male cu students hiking along boulder creek below boulder falls found her body lying on rocks at the bottom of a 29-foot embankment. "At first we thought it was a store window dummy," one of the students was quoted as saying. "We didn't think it could possibly be a human body." but it was. They jumped in their car, rode into town, and returned with a skeptical sheriff. All identification had been removed from the slender young victim, estimated to have been 20 years old. She had been stripped, beaten, and left to die, and then was exposed to the elements for three or four days. All that remained of her personal belongings were three bobby pins in her long reddish-blonde hair. There were no fillings in her teeth, so there could be no dental records. The only clue was a scar from an appendectomy. Police combed boulder canyon and nearby mountain areas for her clothing,but nothing was ever found. Requests for missing persons went out all over the country. Several parents, whose own daughters were missing, traveled to boulder, but no one could identify her. Then finally she was identified as dorothy howard. On january 30, 1984, 60 year old rex douglas was last known to be at st. Louis lambert airport. Mr. Douglas, a pastor at a local church, was to have flown to denver, colorado that day. Investigation revealed mr. Douglas placed a suitcase in a locker at lambert airport, but never picked up a boarding pass and never boarded the flight to denver, colorado. Mr. Douglas had gone to missouri to conduct a land transaction, which he completed. He also made a side-trip to des moines, iowa on january 28, 1984 for unknown reasons. Mr. Douglas told his wife he might take a side-trip to kansas city, missouri to see the "Big church" (nazarene headquarters). Apparently, mr. Douglas made this trip as he flew from kansas city to des moines, then back to st. Louis. However, no one reported seeing mr. Douglas at nazarene headquarters. He was last seen wearing a dark navy blue suit, brown sweater vest, white shirt, red tie, and reading glasses. On september 24, 1983, margaret hillman was at a large party held in a barn on the heil ranch in greer canyon. She was last seen alive at 11:30 p.M. And was supposed to catch a ride home with three cousins. When questioned the next day, the three cousins reported they could not find hillman when they were ready to leave at about 1:30 a.M. On september 25. On july 17, 1984, a skeletonized body was found partially buried one and one half miles north of the dam where the party was held, still on the heil ranch property; clothing was piled nearby. Since february 1999, the westminster and thornton police departments detectives have investigated the suspicious disappearance of nine year old sarah skiba, her father paul skiba and lorenzo chivers, an employee of paul's moving company and storage facility (tuff's moving) located on the 7000 block of raleigh street, westminster. Physical evidence was located at the moving and storage facility and in or on two moving trucks owned by the business. Blood found at the facility was confirmed to be human blood by the colorado bureau of investigation and identified through dna as being from paul and sarah skiba. On february 17, 1999, a vehicle belonging to lorenzo chivers was located several blocks away from the moving and storage facility at the apartment complex parking lot of 3809 west 68th avenue, westminster, and on february 27, 1999, the vehicle belonging to paul skiba was located in an apartment complex parking lot at the 3100 block of arkansas, denver. The investigation and forensic evidence indicate sarah and paul skiba and lorenzo chivers were likely murdered near 72nd avenue and raleigh street in westminster on february 7, 1999. On september 13, 1999 a hit and run driver killed mary vickerman at us 287 and the orchards shopping center entrance in loveland, colorado. Mrs. Vickerman was sitting on her bicycle waiting to cross us 287 when a red ford pick-up, 1970's model with a white camper shell turned out of the orchards shopping center and slammed into mrs.
