On July 8, 2014, Jeffrey Joseph was reported missing to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office following a road trip to Humboldt County to purchase a large amount of marijuana. Joseph last contacted family and friends via cellphone in the late morning of June 21, 2014. Joseph’s last known location is somewhere west of Redding, possibly Willow Creek. Joseph was last known to be driving a green 1998 Toyota Rav 4 with a Louisiana license plate, at the time he went missing.

On August 17, 2016, SHASCOM received a 911 call of shots fired in the area of 3032 Bechelli Ln. in Redding. Responding officers arrived in the area to discover Edwin “Eddie” Phillips, sixty seven years of Redding suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Phillips was transported via ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Investigators later obtained video surveillance from a nearby business, which showed Edwin “Eddie” Phillips entering his business with an unknown subject and exiting a short time later, just prior to the shooting. The subject appears to be of a large stature and was wearing long, baggy shorts and possibly a tank top at the time.
