Between 9 p.M. January 15, 1984 and 10 a.M. January 16, 1984, twenty-seven year old bruce bennett, his twenty-six year old wife, debra and their seven year old daughter melissa, were brutally murdered inside their home located in the 16300 block of east center drive. An autopsy found that debra died from blunt force trauma. Additionally, autopsies determined that bruce and melissa died from blunt force trauma as well as sharp force injuries, consistent with a knife. Evidence at the scene indicated that melissa had been sexually assaulted. A second child, the bennett's three year old daughter, was found alive inside the residence suffering from blunt force trauma. Mr. Charles duke was last seen in la junta, co on august 16, 2003. He and a companion, pam eddings, were traveling in a blue and gray minivan in the vogel canyon area of la junta. According to eddings, the van became high-centered and they decided to abandon it and walk back to town. Eddings said she was unable to make the trip and mr. Duke left her at around noon and went for help; he never arrived home and has never been heard from again. A rancher eventually found eddings and took her back to la junta. An extensive search on foot and by air failed to find charles duke. In late september 2003, six weeks after mr. Duke's disappearance, a residence he owned which was occupied by his niece and her family caught on fire after an explosion which was determined to be arson. The fire has not been connected to mr. On december 23, 1995 officers were called to the coal creek arena and rodeo grounds. A young black male was found at the back of the rodeo grounds with numerous gunshot wounds. The arapahoe county coroner's office responded and determined the victim died between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 a.M. The victim was identified five days later as mr. Craig bridges by use of fingerprints and associated to the address of 4201 don tomaso drive, los angeles, ca. It was believed that mr. Bridges was a crip gang member. Investigation led detectives to the mother of mr. Bridges, who advised she had put her son on a plane from the los angeles airport and thought he was flying to kansas city, missouri. She advised during her son's stay out of state, he called and gave her a telephone number and an extension number where she could reach him in case of an emergency. Investigation revealed mr. Bridges had been staying at the travelers motel, 14200 e. 6th avenue with a black male, who had given a california's driver's license as identification. The license may have been counterfeit. Also staying in the room with mr. Bridges was a black female with blonde hair. Her identity was not established. On june 29, 1984 at 4:14 a.M., james broughman, his wife and two small children were living in the manor house motel. The suspect gained entry into their apartment through a bathroom window located approximately 5 feet off the ground. After entering the window, the suspect was in the process of ransacking through the wallet and other items when he was confronted by james broughman. His wife and two small children awoke during the struggle and saw james struggling with a male and then heard the gunshot that ultimately killed him. The suspect then exited the motel room through the kitchenette window. The investigation showed that another motel room had been burglarized in a very similar manner just prior to the incident in which the james broughman was murdered. On april 16, 2006 at 9:57 p.M., officers responded to 17103 east ohio place on a report of one shot fired and a person moaning. Officers found renauldo cadogan deceased inside the partially open door to apt #105, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest. No eyewitnesses were located during a canvass. Inside the apartment near the front door was a gold colored bag that contained a number of small ziploc baggies. The baggies smelled strongly of marijuana, but they were empty, except for what appeared to be some residue. The investigation revealed that the victim sold marijuana and was heard arguing on his cell phone with an unknown party over the cost of three pounds of marijuana. On august 5, 2003, officers responded to 11205 east 14th avenue on the report of numerous shots being fired. Officers found eliseo cano-pacheco and consuelo hernandez serrano had been shot in their residence. Both were transported to the hospital and later died as a result of their gunshot wounds. A lone gunman approached the residence and fired multiple rounds through the front door. Consuelo hernandez serrano had spoken with her mother in mexico the same night of the homicide and told her mother she thought family members were going to kill her. There seems to have been some type of family feud going on and consuelo hernandez serrano was caught in the middle. On august 4, 1986 the victim, julian domenico was found dead in his bed. He had multiple stab wounds. The victim had been at shagnasty's (a bar) located in the 400 block of havana street, the night before his death and had left with a white male. This individual had apparently been hanging around some of the bars and had met the victim. On the night of the homicide the subject gave the victim a ride home. Subsequently the subject left the state. The subject had been employed in the metro area in a meat rending plant and gave no notice when he left. The subject was interviewed by an out-of-state law enforcement agency and denied any involvement in the homicide. The physical evidence in the scene did not link him to the scene. On march 18, 1995 police were called to 11762 east 16th avenue, apt.# 303, on the report of a dead body. The victim was found on the floor of the living room and may have been there three to four days. The victim had apparently been stabbed to death. Investigation revealed the victim lived an alternative lifestyle, was apparently an alcoholic and user of crack cocaine. He had prior employment at a homeless shelter and took in numerous transients at his apartment. A suspect was determined but was excluded as he had been placed at the washington house at the time. On july 26, 1986, eddie ford returned home from work and parked in the alley. He walked up to the back porch of his residence where a black male, 13 to 20 years of age, 6 feet tall, 220 pounds, walked up to him and fired three shots. Eddie died on his back porch from three gunshot wounds. The victim was divorced from his wife at the time of the death. Approximately two weeks prior to the homicide, someone fired shots at the victim in front of his residence. Bullets recovered at the scene were a .32 caliber. A bullet was located from the previous shooting which the victim did not report to the police. This was a .32 caliber bullet matching the others. The victim told some of his friends about the incident and stated he knew who had fired the first time. He never notified the police or told anyone the name of the person suspected of shooting at him the first time. The suspect(s) responsible for the death of eddie ford have yet to be identified. On june 17, 1989, sometime between 8:20 p.M. And 8:30 p.M., merton "Mutt" dickson was murdered at the intersection of highway 385 and county road 7 in southern yuma county. "Mutt" was returning from burlington when he was killed. "Mutt" was a retired farmer and lived only a short distance from where he was killed. "Mutt" was 71 years old at the time of his death. On scene investigation would indicate that "Mutt" was shot several times. The victim was killed with a 9 millimeter weapon. "Mutt" was rushed to burlington hospital by the idalia ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
